Mould is particularly drawn to silicone sealants, often found in bathrooms and around windows.
The humid environment of a bathroom provides the ideal conditions for black mould growth, where moisture simply beads off the sealant.
Without regular cleaning, this can lead to the emergence and spread of black mould unless prompt action is taken.
A user on the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook page sought advice about a popular mould remover in an attempt to tackle mould accumulation along their shower’s silicone sealant, posting: “Has anyone used this product? I want to get rid of some mould on the silicone sealant around the base of my shower. Will it damage the sealant?”
They were referring to the Cillit Bang Black Mould Remover, with claims from the brand that it eradicates 100 percent of mould swiftly from most surfaces.
The query sparked over 150 responses, with many applauding the effectiveness of the product.
Andriana Polakova praised its efficacy, commenting: “Yes! The best product ever for mould. I do mine and am very happy with it.”
Abhishek Uttar shared his positive experience, adding: “Works wonders. Spray and leave for 10 minutes and then wipe.”
Meanwhile, Amy Shickle reassured: “I’ve used it and my sealant was totally fine. It’s fantastic stuff. It sorted my bathroom out no bother.”
Susan Harwood praised the product, saying: “It’s the best thing to use, swear it works better than bleach.”
Vicki Melling was also impressed, commenting: “We use this, it’s fantastic. Just spray on and leave no need to scrub.”
However, users have noted that while effective, the product does emit a strong odour, necessitating open windows during use.
Tanya Smith shared her experience: “I used this on my bathroom tiles yesterday actually and it’s done a fantastic job! [However] do it with the window open.”
Charmine Simmons recommended the spray, stating: “It’s the only product I use for the mould in my bathroom and I’ve tried loads of others – it’s the best. The smell can be a little strong so make sure the window is open when you use it.”
Sile Kersey added a word of caution: “This stuff is amazing. Won’t damage the sealant, but wear a mask maybe! It’s very strong.”
