Poached eggs are a breakfast favourite, but they can be tricky to get just right. Luckily, there is a hack that can help you achieve the “perfect” poached egg in just one minute. According to TikTok creator Emily Scott, you don’t even need to use a hob at all, as the microwave will do all the work.
Emily, who shares her breakfast recipes on her @whatiateforbreakfast page, said: “You do not need to use the hob or even a pan to create her poached eggs.” Instead, she uses a microwave-safe dish, making the process as easy as just cracking an egg and pressing a button.
To start, Emily greases a small dish and cracks an egg into it. If you’re making more than one, she suggests using several small ramekins.
Then, the content creator pours in freshly boiled water until the egg is completely submerged.
She warned: “Carefully prick the egg and white with a cocktail stick, skewer or sharp knife.
“This helps to prevent the chance of the egg exploding, so don’t skip this step.”
Next, it’s time for the microwave, where Emily recommends cooking the egg for 40 to 45 seconds. Cooking time, however, may vary depending on your microwave.
“If they are undercooked, try adding an extra five or 10 seconds at a time until the whites are cooked but the yolk is still runny,” Emily noted.
Once the egg is cooked, just place it on a piece of kitchen towel to soak up any excess water, and it’s done.
