Fried eggs might seem simple, but it can be quite difficult to perfectly get crispy edges, a set gooey centre, and cooked whites. However, world-renowned chef Gordon Ramsay has shared a game-changing technique that will make fried eggs taste so good it’s to “die for.”
This method is reminiscent of a chef making a steak; by adding a key ingredient to oil, his technique elevates the humble fried egg into something absolutely irresistible. Whether you’re new to cooking or a seasoned home chef, this is one method you’ll want to master. Taking to TikTok, the celebrity cook boasted about his method and said: ” An excellent tip for your weekend brunch plans from me.”
Ingredients
- Two large eggs
- Oil (enough for half the pan)
- Butter (roughly a tablespoon)
- Salt to taste
- Black pepper to taste
- Chilli flakes to taste
- Sriracha to taste
- A drizzle of Worcestershire sauce
Method
To begin, Gordon placed oil in a hot pan and then placed a touch of butter in the middle. He then grabbed a large egg and cracked it on a flat surface before decanting the contents into the pan.
While that begins to bubble up, Gordon seasons his eggs with a pinch of black pepper, salt, and chilli flakes. He then shared, “Once you’ve done that, the butter should be foaming.
“Clockwise, just roll the pan (off the fire) and that foaming butter cooks the egg whites beautifully. When you roll them around like that, it almost floods the centre of the eggs with that foaming butter. It’s quite an art frying an egg perfectly.”
Gordon added: “I love the ends nice and crispy, and I like all the whites beautifully cooked.” Next, place the pan back on the fire and pour sriracha and Worcestershire sauce over the eggs.
From there, turn the gas off and let the remaining heat from the pan cook the eggs. Gordon concluded: “And honestly, they are to die for.”
An expert at Food and Wine explained Gordon’s technique: “Gordon Ramsay has a solution that’s reminiscent of cooking a steak — he uses both oil and butter.
“Adding oil helps prevent the melted butter from burning as you fry your eggs while still allowing you to leverage the rich flavour that butter brings.
“And don’t be afraid to use a generous amount of butter, just like Ramsay, because that’s crucial to his cooking technique.”
