How to make Christmas dinner for entire family – costing £3.50 a head

It’s no shock Christmas is an expensive time, and for many, it means catching up financially for the months after.

But at its core, Christmas is about appreciating what you have and spending time with your nearest and dearest, and it doesn’t have to include spending an absolute fortune – especially on dinner, as you can make a tasty meal on a budget this year.

UK Newest Foods have taken to TikTok to review the Heron Foods £13.99 Christmas dinner, and it looks seriously tasty, working out at just £3.50 a head. But what’s it like and what do you get as part of the meal?

You can choose any six sides, which include cauliflower cheese, carrots, sprouts, pigs in blankets, Yorkshire puddings, and roast potatoes.

When it comes to the meat, you can choose “gammon, turkey, or Quorn” if you’re vegetarian or vegan. She joked: “Nobody really likes sprouts,” saying many would opt to leave those on the shelves – but she wanted to pick up the whole range.

She did admit “annoyingly, everything does need to be cooked at different temperatures, at different times”, but you can make it work easily enough “so it can all be done in one go”. Because this is all about convenience.

Also it’s a great way to spend “less time in the kitchen on Christmas Day” – and more time doing the things you love with your family.

“It’s quick, it’s easy, and it’s an absolute brilliant price,” she raved. When she plated it up, everything looked to be seriously tasty, and it was the icing on the cake as she added gravy, saying: “Everybody has gravy [granules] in the store cupboard.”

The food reviewer admitted the deal doesn’t quite stretch to four adult size meals, but makes two ample adult portions, and two ample children’s portions – so therefore, could also be suitable for three adults. Of course, this also depends on your appetite too, but when it’s Christmas, you’ll likely be piling the food up high.

Even if you’ve got a larger family and need to buy another bundle, it would still come to only £28 to feed up to six.

The final verdict was: “It’s quick, it’s convenient, and it is actually tasty,” and people in the comments were excited to try it.

One woman wrote: “I’m a lone mother with 5 children, saving money is priority for me, this is such a bargain.”

Someone else praised: “Love this! I hope this shows people worried about Christmas food budgets while keeping simple is doable.”

Another penned: “I like watching these videos it means families will be able to have a special, convenient and budget-priced Xmas dinner that’s tasty.”

One TikTok user said: “Good value but I think 2 adults. Nice you can pick sides.” The food reviewer responded: “Even 2 huge portions for 2 adults for £13.99 is brilliant for a full Christmas dinner.”
