How to make avocado toast taste better with 1 simple ingredient

Avocado on toast makes for a nutritious morning meal, yet countless people wrongly assume it’s a boring breakfast because they’re not preparing it properly. Whilst it appears to be a straightforward recipe, avocados tend to be rather tasteless unless you understand the correct method to enhance their flavour.

After having avocado toast countless times for breakfast and growing bored of the taste, Brooke Schuldt of Simply Recipes has shared her one “heavenly” ingredient upgrade for making “better avocado toast every time”. She claimed that it’s one of those flavour combos “you haven’t tried yet, but should”. Instead of the typical ingredients you add to avocado toast like salt, olive oil or chilli flakes, Brooke noted that the secret lies in pickled pepperoncini.

She said, “When I tell you that this is the perfect little addition to a classic breakfast, I really mean it.

“After dumping about a tablespoon of pickling liquid into my avocado, I threw a couple of pepperoncini pieces in there for good measure and spread this heavenly combo on my toast.”

The cooking enthusiast explained that the pepperoncini and their pickling liquid “perk up the whole dish”.

It adds a “slight tang and spice” but not enough to upset your stomach for the rest of the day.

Not only will the juice add flavour to the somewhat bland fruit, but the added liquid will help make it creamier and easier to mash.

For those eager to add pepperoncini juice to their smashed avocado, the one word of warning is to make sure not to add too much liquid.

Brooke argued: “Flavour-wise, it will still be amazing, but it will make your avocado mixture more liquid, which is not ideal for topping toast.

“I have found one tablespoon is enough, depending on how much avocado you are using (I’m usually using half of a regular-sized avocado or one small avocado).”

Avocado toast is easy to whip up and can be customised however you’d like. Just remember, nailing the seasoning is key to elevating it from good to sublime.
