As the weather turns colder, you might be less keen to keep your windows open as frequently as you would during the summer months. Keeping your house warm is crucial, but this lack of ventilation can lead to its own issues, particularly around dust.
The limited airflow during these chillier months means that dust is more likely to build up on your household surfaces. And no matter how much you dust, it may seem like it never goes away. However, cleaning experts say that you can make your own solution at home using just three ingredients – and it’s potent enough to ward off annoying dust for up to a month.
To help in preventing people’s homes from becoming covered with dust, home cleaning platform Homeaglow has revealed a natural and cost-effective dusting solution designed to both eliminate dust and prevent its return.
Initially shared by the brand in a viral Instagram video, which has been viewed millions of times, Homeaglow’s video details the dust-busting cleaning solution without the need to go out to the shop and purchase specialised products.
Fans have swarmed to the comments, praising the trick as ‘so effective’ at keeping dust at bay.
How to make a DIY dust spray
All you need to create this ‘magic’ cleaner is 60ml of distilled white vinegar, one tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil, and a few drops of dish soap.
If you like, you can also add a few drops of essential oils to give the solution a scent that matches your favourite smell.
Firstly, make sure you have a clean, empty spray bottle at hand. Pour in 1.5 cups of water, followed by the vinegar, oil and dish soap.
Secure the lid and give it a good shake to combine the ingredients, then lightly spritz onto a microfiber cloth.
Use the dampened cloth to wipe across surfaces, gathering dust and spreading the solution. You might need an extra clean, dry cloth to get rid of any excess and remove streaks.
Experts say that this mixture helps to combat dust and prevents it from resettling for “up to one month”.
