Sausages are a flexible family staple that can be prepared using various cooking methods. From pan-frying and grilling to using an air fryer, each technique can produce a slightly different texture, appearance and ultimately, a different flavour.
Achieving the correct cooking duration and temperature is crucial to ensure they are fully cooked while remaining succulent and packed with flavour. True Bites Family Butchers revealed on their website the simplest method to cook sausages, and it doesn’t require a frying pan. The meat specialists stated that cooking sausages in the oven is an excellent way to cook them uniformly without having to monitor a hot pan.

They continued: “It is especially handy if you are cooking a few sausages at once, making a cooked breakfast, feeding the family, or preparing sausages for sandwiches, mash, casseroles or a tray bake.”
How to cook sausages in the oven
The professionals advised cooking sausages at 200°C/180°C Fan. This provides sufficient heat to caramelise the exterior while ensuring the centre cooks thoroughly.
However, if your sausages are particularly thick, you may wish to reduce the temperature marginally and extend the cooking time slightly.
The butchers explained: “Most sausages take around 25 to 30 minutes in the oven. Thinner sausages may cook a little quicker, while thicker butcher’s sausages may need closer to 30 to 35 minutes. Turn them halfway through cooking so they brown evenly on both sides.”
Once your oven has reached temperature, arrange the sausages on a baking tray. You can line the tray with foil or baking paper if you want to simplify the washing up.
If your sausages are particularly lean, add a light drizzle of oil. Most sausages, however, contain sufficient fat and don’t require much additional oil.
Then, put the tray in the oven and cook for 25 to 30 minutes, turning them midway through.
The sausages will emerge a lovely “golden brown” on the outside and thoroughly hot throughout. These sausages complement mash, chips, eggs, beans, gravy, onion or even bread rolls perfectly for a satisfying breakfast.
The butchers noted: “Cooking sausages in the oven is simple, reliable and ideal when you want an easy meal with minimal fuss.”
When cooking frozen sausages, the meat specialists suggest thawing them first. Cooking from frozen can make achieving even cooking more difficult, particularly with thicker sausages.
Thaw them completely in the fridge, then cook following the method above. If the packaging indicates they can be cooked from frozen, follow the packet instructions and allow additional cooking time.
