Cooking bacon may seem simple, but it often ends up overcooked and dry rather than crispy.
The usual methods of preparing this staple ingredient include frying it in oil, baking it in the oven, or using an air fryer.
Frying pan-cooked bacon usually yields the best results, but using oil isn’t always ideal.
Plus, the clean-up situation when frying bacon in a pan on the hob can be a nightmare to tackle.
For a faster and no-effort method, Erin Meck, who regularly shares healthy recipes on her TikTok page @erinnnmeck, has posted a video on how she “loves” to cook “crispy bacon”.
The caption of the video reads: “This blew my mind when I first learned this. Love this method for a single serving of bacon or if you just want it quick.
“Cooking times depend on your microwave, how thick your bacon is and how many pieces you’re cooking at once.
“You don’t need to use paper plates either, but it makes the cleanup even that much easier.”
Erin’s method is to cook bacon in the microwave as she explained in the video it’s “quicker, less messy and it still turns out crispy”.
She instructed: “So just lay your bacon on a plate. Cover and cook for about two and a half to three minutes.”
Covering the bacon with another plate is important to speed up the cooking time and prevent fat from spitting on the inside of the microwave.
Watch the bacon closely towards the end of the cooking time to ensure it doesn’t burn.
It will keep cooking for a couple of seconds after the microwave stops. Once cooked, carefully remove the plate from the microwave and use tongs to transfer the bacon to your plate.
After putting three rashers of streaky bacon on a paper plate and covering it with another, Erin showed viewers her results and the bone looked super crispy without being burnt.
