Wearing any kind of white clothing is always a risky game. No matter how careful you try to be, stains seem to appear as if from nowhere – and they aren’t always easy to get rid of.
Many of us will probably have had to surrender a white t-shirt or pair of jeans to the bin after an unfortunate spillage. But according to lifestyle influencer and mum Chantel Mila, it’s easier than you think to remove stains from your whites. She recently shared her secret with her millions of TikTok followers, and it’s said to be very effective.
According to the cleaning pro, all you need to banish pesky stains from your white clothes and keep them looking bright for good is three simple ingredients and a bit of patience.
Simply mix a quarter of a cup of hydrogen peroxide with one cup of baking soda and one teaspoon of dish soap with some warm water, and leave your dingy or dirty whites to soak for at least half an hour.
Then, once the time is up, wash them like you normally would. You’ll notice them looking significantly brighter and stain-free, meaning there’s no need to go out and buy pricey replacements.
According to the experts at The Spruce, hydrogen peroxide works well to remove stains – especially protein and plant-based ones. However, you should always test it on a hidden area of the clothing before soaking, to check they won’t become damaged.
And if you don’t want to soak your whites, you can add the hydrogen peroxide directly into the washing machine drum instead.
The hydrogen peroxide can also be placed in the automatic bleach dispenser of the washer, where it’ll then be added to the wash cycle.
Not only is hydrogen peroxide great for getting rid of stains – it can also help to make your clothing, towels and even shoes smell fresher too. All you need to do is mix a half cup of hydrogen peroxide with enough water to completely submerge the items.
Let them soak for at least 15 minutes before washing as usual, and you should find that any unpleasant aromas have disappeared.
