Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s sensational departure from the Royal Family would have been “different” if “a family member or two” had stood up for them “during the darkest times”, Omid Scobie once claimed.
Mr Scobie, now often dubbed the Duchess of Sussex’s “mouthpiece” due to his links with them, previously talked about the Sussex couple’s exit from the Firm after having joined them on their farewell tour in the UK in 2020.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex caused a media storm in early 2020 when they announced they’d be stepping down as senior royals.
By March, they had completed the last of their royal engagements and moved to the US.
That same month Mr Scobie, who’s also penned two books involving Prince Harry and Meghan since then, Finding Freedom and Endgame, wrote for Harpers Bazaar and gave an insight into what he described as the “end of a royal era”.
Mr Scobie claimed that the Sussexes were “left with no choice” but to leave the Firm after facing “impossible” circumstances.
He said: “The reality was a couple who were left with no other choice but to create their own change after being left to fend for themselves against impossible circumstances – even during her pregnancy.
“They knew something had to change, but they also didn’t want to stop supporting the Queen.
“One can’t help but wonder if things might have been different if a family member or two had stood up for them during the darkest times.”
The author added that Harry and Meghan felt “crushed” by Megxit because they thought the decision was “not necessary”.
He explained: “To say they were crushed is an understatement.
“It’s a decision that the couple still feel wasn’t necessary.”
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex carried out their last royal engagement in March 2020 when they attended the Commonwealth Day Service along with the rest of the royals.
