It’s the most troubling time of the year if you’re afraid of spiders, which is pretty much everyone really.
Whether you scream and run when you see a little spider or you’re brave enough to use the old glass and paper trick to safely move spiders back outside, nobody really loves having to deal with spiders at this time of year.
That’s why households are always looking for fail-safe methods to prevent spiders from coming into your house, or at least to prevent them from creeping out from their hiding places inside your house and into plain sight.
Spider season is considered to start between the end of August – so any time now – and end some time in October, depending on the weather.
According to pest control experts, one way to stop spiders coming into your house is by using tea tree oil. What’s more, you can even control where in your house spiders go by spraying tea tree oil, for example, around your bed.
Spiders don’t like strong essential oils like tea tree oil, peppermint oil, lavender or citrus, because they taste with their feet. So if you draw a line of essential oils like tea tree oil around your bed, you can sleep soundly in the knowledge that you won’t wake up with a whacking great spider on your face, or worse, eating one in the night.
Pest UK says: “Strong smells – Strong smells are a natural way to deter spiders from entering your home. Smells such as lemon, lime, oranges, anything with a strong citrus aroma, help repel spiders. Also, eucalyptus oil, tea tree oil, or peppermint oil.”
And according to bed experts at My Bed Frames, you can use tea tree oil near to where you sleep to stop spiders in the bedroom.
They said: “Yes, tea tree oil can be an effective natural repellent for spiders. Spiders are known to dislike the strong scent of essential oils, and tea tree oil is one of the most potent. Adding a few drops to a spray bottle filled with water and spraying it around your home can help keep spiders away. It’s also known for its antibacterial and antifungal properties, so it’s a good choice for a natural pest control solution.
“In the UK, common spiders like the House Spider and Garden Spider tend to be more active during the evening and night. These nocturnal habits are generally a way to avoid predators and effectively catch prey. However, it’s worth noting that not all UK spider species strictly adhere to a nocturnal schedule; some can also be active during daylight hours. Regardless of their activity patterns, implementing preventive measures can help keep these common UK spiders away while you sleep.”
