Hot weather maps have forecast a three day stretch of hot conditions surpassing temperatures of 25C and reaching a maximum of 33C in England. Britain has basked in warm conditions in recent weeks, but this could intensify further as temperatures look set to ramp up in August.
Weather maps from WXCHARTS, aided by Metdesk data, show that temperatures are set to pick up from midday on August 7, when most of England will see temperatures of 25C-29C.
The warmest conditions will be seen in the south and west of England, with 29C temperatures expected near Coventry and Birmingham. The north of England will see slightly cooler temperatures of 20C.
Later that day, at 18:00, temperatures will peak at 31C in Shropshire, the maps predict.
The following day, August 8, Kent will see the hottest temperatures with 32C forecast at midday and 33C conditions at 18:00.
WXCHARTS maps then predict a cooler, but nevertheless toasty, 29C on the south coast of England near Brighton on August 9.
Meanwhile, much of the south of England and the Midlands will hover between 25C and 27C.
On August 10, temperatures will again peak at 27C or 28C for the Midlands and the south, maps suggest.
The Met Office defines a heatwave as an “extended period of hot weather relative to the expected conditions of the area at that time of year, which may be accompanied by high humidity.”
They add that, in the UK, the heatwave threshold is met when “a location records a period of at least three consecutive days with daily maximum temperatures meeting or exceeding the heatwave temperature threshold.”
The temperature thresholds vary for different areas of the UK.
The Met Office’s forecast for August 4-August 13 states that there is a risk of wet and windy weather but the forecast around this is uncertain.
They add that drier spells could be broken up by rains or showers before conditions become warmer and settled in the middle of August.
