Hot weather maps show 25C ‘mini-heatwave’ hitting – check your area | Weather | News

A wave of warm weather is set to sweep across the UK within days, with new maps showing temperatures hitting 24C and 25C in parts of England and even northern Scotland. With May well underway and summer just around the corner, the latest heat maps from Netweather.tv show a sharp rise in temperatures and a ‘mini-heatwave’ across the country on Tuesday, May 20.

The forecast suggests a mini-heatwave could be on the cards, with both London and Liverpool expected to bask in 25C heat – the highest in the country. Dark red colours on the weather chart show the warmest areas, with central and southern parts of England feeling the most heat. The capital and surrounding counties, along with parts of the North West, including Merseyside and Cheshire, are likely to see summer-like conditions.

But it’s not just England that will enjoy the warmer weather.

Scotland is also set for an unusually hot spell, with areas in the north, including Inverness-shire and parts of Sutherland, potentially reaching 23C to 24C.

Edinburgh, the Borders, and parts of Ayrshire could also see temperatures well above 20C.

Elsewhere, the Midlands, East Anglia, and the South East are expected to see highs between 21C and 24C, while cities including Manchester, Birmingham, and Norwich will also enjoy dry, sunny spells with plenty of warmth.

Wales and Northern Ireland are slightly cooler, but still pleasant, with most areas reaching between 18C and 21C.

However, forecasters say the run-up to the mini-heatwave could bring some unsettled weather, particularly in the south.

The Met Office’s long-range forecast for May 13 to 22 reads: “Much of this period is looking dry across most of the UK, with clear or sunny spells for many areas, as high pressure likely dominates the weather pattern.”

However, it adds that there could be “some rain or showers, which could be heavy and thundery,” particularly in the southwest early in the week.

Looking at the forecast for today (Saturday), the Met Office said: “Another fine, dry day with plenty of warm sunshine for most. Generally warmer than Friday.”

As far as Sunday is concerned, the Met Office added: “Turning warmer and cloudier on Sunday with showers arriving for some, mainly in the southwest, these turning heavy and thundery by Monday.”
