A man who hid in shopping centre toilets before sexually assaulting two women has been jailed. Phillip Daniel, who is linked to the “incel movement”, sexually assaulted a girl, 15, before catching a 30-minute train to attack two other women.

The 34-year-old approached the teenage girl while she was sat on a wall waiting for a friend in Barry, Wales, last summer. After asking for her phone number, he put is hand on her calf before the victim broke free and fled. Daniel then got on a train to Cardiff where he headed to the busy St David’s shopping centre.

As reported by the Mirror, he hid in a toilet cubicle at the shopping centre before sexually assaulting two more women. Newport Crown Court heard how he grabbed the waist of the first victim as she entered the toilet before pinning her against the wall.

He eventually let her go after she shouted for help before a second young woman exited a different cubicle in the toilet. Daniel then pushed her back and put his hand on her breast, but the woman fought back.

She screamed for help and managed to free herself before Daniel was detained. After telling officers that “voices” in his head told him to travel to Cardiff, they found a Viagra tablet in his wallet.

Daniel, of Osprey Court in Barry, pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting the 15-year-old in Barry twice, along with the two sexual assaults in Cardiff. He was already under a community order for assaulting a female runner in Cardiff.

Describing his first attack on the 15-year-old girl, Judge Tracey Lloyd-Clarke told Daniel: “You were behind her with one hand on her chest and one around her neck. Your head was near the left side of her face. She tried to pull your hands away and she started to scream. She called you a paedophile.”

The judge added that the attacks had a “very traumatic effect” on all victims. The 15-year-old has since felt unable to leave her house alone while one of the women said she avoided public toilets for weeks.

The other victim had to take time off work and was unable to sleep. She also said she has since felt afraid around men.

Daniel was jailed for eight years with an extended four years on licence. He will be registered as a sex offender for life and a sexual harm prevention order will be in place until 2040 – banning him from going into women’s public toilets or unisex toilets or having unsupervised contact with children.
