A British tourist has tragically been discovered dead on his sun lounger at a popular Greek beach after saying he felt ill. The 74-year-old was found unconscious on Stalis Beach on the island of Crete by fellow resort-goers at around 12pm on Sunday.
Emergency services raced to the scene and launched a desperate attempt to revive the man, but sadly, their efforts proved futile. It is understood that he had initially gone for a swim before returning to his sun lounger, with reports suggesting he experienced a “strong feeling” of illness shortly before his death.
Medics from the Hellenic National Centre of Emergency Care (EKAB) treated the man at the scene, though no cause of death has yet been released by Greek authorities.
The incident follows several heartbreaking beach fatalities over recent months involving British holidaymakers abroad.
