Horizon League Tournament picks, odds, best bet Tuesday

While Miami of Ohio has captured a lot of mid-major attention with its undefeated season, another school has claimed a spotlight this season — and that’s because of its head coach.

Doug Gottlieb started his Green Bay tenure with lofty hopes, attempting to maintain his Fox Sports radio gig while also coaching the Phoenix.

Safe to say that did not go as planned last year, posting a 4-28 record in his inaugural campaign.

However, after stepping away from radio to focus solely on coaching, Gottlieb very well could win Horizon League Coach of the Year honors.

The Phoenix are 12-8 in conference play and have the No. 5 seed for the postseason tournament.

Green Bay will meet Purdue Fort Wayne on Tuesday in its tourney opener.

The point spread has Green Bay favored by 5.5 points with a total of 146.5, according to FanDuel.

The Phoenix won the regular-season meetings by 17 and 18 points, respectively, although the Mastodons finished only one game back in the standings.

Gottlieb certainly has his critics, and he added fuel to the fire by getting suspended one game for postgame comments and behavior following a loss.

Betting on College Basketball?

However, he is the son of a coach, played point guard in college and has previous coaching experience with the Maccabiah Games.

This is not a case of Skip Bayless grabbing a clipboard and a whistle.

I have a 102-83-2 record against the spread in this Post sports section. My next play is Green Bay laying the points against Purdue Fort Wayne.

The Play: Green Bay -5.5, (-120, FanDuel)
