Homeowners alerted to steer clear ‘cold and lifeless’ colour scheme

Property owners are being advised to steer clear of one specific paint colour that could leave a room appearing “cold and lifeless”. Selecting interior paint can prove a challenging task.

You’ll want a hue you’re fond of, whilst also ensuring the space feels bright, airy and inviting. It’s well established that north-facing rooms, which receive less sunlight than south-facing ones, benefit from lighter tones featuring warm undertones of yellow, pink and brown. However, according to specialists, one particular colour should be completely avoided to prevent your property from feeling dark, chilly, and devoid of character, and it’s a trend that Millenials used to love.

Professionals at luxury window and door designer The Residence Collection have cautioned people to exercise care when using grey, particularly if it contains blue undertones. The specialists polled Britons to discover which colour makes them feel most content spending time in, with grey proving a favoured option.

Nevertheless, they reminded property owners to consider carefully the shade they select. Grey was a big interior design trend for years.

It was even dubbed “Millennial grey” due to the generation’s love of the colour scheme. Grey is a popular choice, sitting in the top five for colours Brits say is in their happiest room in the house.”

They continued: “Just remember, choosing the right shade is key, as the wrong one can appear cold and lifeless.” The specialists noted that certain grey shades can produce the reverse effect.

“Warm greys with taupe and mole undertones blend seamlessly with autumn’s rich palette, creating a sophisticated yet cosy atmosphere,” the specialists explained.

Happiest colours to paint your home

So, which colours should you paint your home for a happy vibe? The experts recommended cream, a classic, versatile shade pairs beautifully with the earthy tones of tan, camel and beige.

There are endless ways to use cream in your home. You can paint entire rooms in rich cream tones for a serene, inviting atmosphere.

Blue was also identified as a good option. Warm shades like marine navy, sea blue and viking blue are especially appealing as they complement the cosy earth tones of the season.

Green stands in third place as the colour Brits choose to feature in the room that makes them the happiest, and it’s easy to see why. Greens are perfect for spaces that benefit from a connection to nature, like living rooms and dining areas.

Create a cosy space with an accent wall in deep olive or forest green.
