Some 75 Channel migrants have been returned to France under Keir Starmer’s one-in-one-out deal with Emmanuel Macron.

The Home Office said 20 people were sent back on Thursday, following 13 deportations on October 22.

And 51 asylum seekers have arrived in the UK under the scheme.

Officials say they have “undergone full documentation, security and eligibility checks”.

A Home Office spokesperson said: “For many years, illegal migrants entered our country with no consequence.

“These returns send a warning to those considering entering this country illegally: if you come here by small boat, you can be sent back.

“We are scaling up these removals to France and will do whatever it takes to secure our borders.”

This is a breaking story. More to follow.
