Gov. Kathy Hochul said Wednesday that Mayor Zohran Mamdani made the right call to stick by NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, despite mounting pressure from Hizzoner’s socialist comrades.

“I support his decision to confirm that she should remain,” Hochul told reporters.

“That is a smart decision,” she added, touting Tisch’s “great strength” and success in rooting out corruption and driving crime down in the Big Apple.

“All across the state, but New York City, we just came off the safest summer in New York subway history, and it was just extraordinary the decline in crime,” the governor said.

“So, I think she’s doing well.”

Mamdani has butted heads with his Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) pals over Tisch’s future following the Oct. 8 shooting of an illegal immigrant gangbanger in the Bronx by ICE agents. The shooting sparked protests and renewed calls for the feds to leave the Big Apple.

Last weekend, national DSA leaders demanded that Mamdani fire Tisch and disband two elite NYPD units, calling on the lefty mayor to “use every power available to him to drive ICE out of New York City.”

The statement followed a similar call from state Senate candidate and DSA darling Illapa Sairitupac.

Mamdani has insisted that he’s sticking with Tisch, who has overseen a historic drop in violent crime in the five boroughs during her tenure at One Police Plaza.

“There is no one in my administration that I’m keeping in their position who has a time clock,” he told reporters during a Greenwich Village press conference.

“When someone is in their position, I’ve made clear there are no plans to change that — whether it’s with respect to the police commissioner, as well as with respect to any other leaders in agencies and departments across our city,” the mayor said.

Hochul broached the controversy during her Tuesday night debate with GOP challenger Bruce Blakeman, the Nassau County executive — citing support for Tisch while dodging a question about her chummy relationship with Mamdani, who is not popular outside of the city.
