Some of the cheapest pints in the country can be found in an historic UK city and you may not have guessed which one it is. A recent study has revealed which UK cities have the cheapest average price for a pint and in second place is Northampton. Located in the East Midlands region of England, Northampton is famous as the historic shoe-making capital of the UK but now it might become famous for how cheap it is to enjoy a pint here.

The research from the credit card brand Aqua calculated the average price of a pint in UK cities to come up with the ranking, with Blackpool coming in first place. However, Northampton did not trail far behind with the average price of a pint there only 25p more. In Northampton, you will enjoy a pint for around £3.50, the study revealed, slightly higher than the cheap pints in Blackpool which are around £3.25. The results are based on a seedlist of the 40 most populated cities in the UK.

Plenty of other cities across the UK have rather cheap pints of beer, the research has found. In third place behind Northampton is Derby where pints cost an average of £3.60.

Northampton might be considered an underrated visitor destination and not just because of the cheap pints. The small city is also home to Althorp Estate, Coton Manor Gardens, Icarus Falconry and Castle Ashby Gardens.

Meanwhile, some of the top-rated pubs in the city include The Princess Alexandra, The Malt Shivel Tavern and Albion Brewery Bar.

There are also plenty of well-reviewed hotels in Northampton, including Sunley Hotel and Premiere Inn. In addition, the areas surrounding the city boast a number of things to do such as Wicksteed Park, where families will have a blast on the fairground rides.

Northamptonshire is also home to Silverstone Museum, Stanwick Lakes and Catanger Llamas.

The cities in the UK with the cheapest average cost of a pint, according to Aqua, are:

  1. Blackpool (£3.25)
  2. Northampton (£3.50)
  3. Derby (£3.60)
  4. Swindon (£3.85)
  5. Southend-on-Sea/Luton/Milton Keynes/Kingston Upon Hull/Leicester/Preston/Aberdeen (£4)

Unsurpringsingly, London came out on top as the UK city with the most expensive average price of a pint at £6. However, it did tie for first place with Northern Ireland’s capital, Belfast.

Following that in second place for the most expensive pints in the UK is Bristol, where the average price of a pint comes in at £5.60.

Reading, which is located just west of London, comes in third place as an average pint there will cost you £5.50.

In fourth place, where pints cost an average of £5.25 is Norwhich and in fifth place on the list of most expensive cities for pints in the UK is Edinburgh with an estimate of £5.20 per pint.
