‘Hidden gem’ European country that’s the safest place for a holiday | Europe | Travel

A little-known country in Europe has been identified as the safest holiday destination in the world — and it’s somewhere you’ve probably never even considered going. Andorra, which is next to Spain, is a stunning spot with breathtaking natural beauty and plenty of lakes and mountains.

The security experts at ADT analysed data on a variety of metrics, including overall crime rates and fear of being robbed, to calculate the safest countries for tourists to visit this summer. The tiny European country of Andorra tops the list, thanks to its impressively low crime index rate, with both visitors and residents reporting few concerns about personal safety. The pros said: “Located in the Pyrenees mountain range, this hidden gem of a country is an ideal getaway, offering breathtaking natural scenery, exhilarating mountain rollercoasters, and a wealth of museums just waiting to be explored. “

Despite these attractions, Andorra attracts just 150,000 British tourists each year – over 100 times less than its neighbour Spain (18.3m).

One of the best things to do when visiting Andorra is to visit the Mirador del Roc del Quer.

This impressive glass-walled observation deck, 400 metres in the air, offers the best mountain views, and travellers have hailed it as a ‘must-see’.

If you’re an art lover, then Andorra is the place for you. Andorra la Vella is home to an original Salvador Dalí sculpture called La Noblesse du Temps, or the Nobility of Time.

Resembling a large melting clock that many of his artworks feature, it’s another sight that everyone should see — and it’s perfect for taking pictures too.

Another reason why Andorra should be on your travel bucket list is the shopping scene. It’s a tax-free country, so you’ll get some bargains. In fact, there’s a whole street renowned for its appeal to shopaholics — Meritxell Avenue of Andorra la Vella up until Vivand, also known as The Shopping Mile.

Here, you can buy clothes, jewellery, perfume, and shoes, among plenty of other goods, that may cost less than at home.

The second safest country on the list was Slovenia, according to ADT. This is mainly due to low levels of street crime, and whether it’s the picturesque Lake Bled, the historic capital of Ljubljana, or the striking Julian Alps, there are plenty of fascinating sites to explore.

Here are the 10 ‘safest’ holiday destinations to visit in 2025:

  1. Andorra
  2. Slovenia
  3. Switzerland
  4. Singapore
  5. Japan
  6. Iceland
  7. South Korea
  8. China
  9. Finland
  10. Denmark
