A herd of 60 cows caused ‘udder’ pandemonium on a housing estate after breaking free from a nearby farm. The police were summoned when stunned locals saw the bovines trampling flower beds, grazing on their lawns and damaging garden walls.
The cattle had strayed from a farm and ambled onto St James’ Court in Harpur Hill, near Buxton, Derbyshire, on Saturday morning, September 6. Officers grappled with the livestock for over an hour before the situation was brought under control.
In a humorous Facebook post, Buxton Police Safer Neighbourhood Team quipped that the cows “had absolutely no intention of moooving on”.
The post continued: “We were called out by residents in a local neighbourhood reporting an unusual disturbance.
“After a few phone calls and some hoofwork across nearby farms, we were joined by the farmer who had clearly herd our call for help.
“The cows are now safely back in their field, and the farmer will be addressing the damage caused to the walls by their unexpected wanderings.”
