A “heartbroken” dog is struggling to cope in kennels after being taken in when her owner tragically died and remained undiscovered for five days. Dogs, often referred to as “man’s best friend”, are renowned for their unwavering love and loyalty towards their owners.
This global reputation has led millions to adopt dogs into their families, where they form deep bonds and can become highly reliant on their human companions – which make owning a dog a significant responsibility.
One dog is dealing with a lot of pain and trauma after her “whole world” was “turned upside down”. Misty, the dog, was left reeling after her owner died, and “loyally laid beside him for five whole days” until they were found by the fire brigade. Following this traumatic experience, Misty ended up at Oakwood Dog Rescue, awaiting a new home.
The rescue centre took to Facebook to share Misty’s heart-wrenching tale, describing the 11-year-old’s plight in a detailed post.
The organisation wrote: “Have you ever seen the face of a heartbroken dog? Please meet Misty. Very sadly, Misty arrived with us on Sunday afternoon as she was found home alone, with her deceased owner.
“She had loyally laid beside him for 5 whole days. She likely thought that she’d never be found. She’d never receive another meal. She’d never receive another tummy tickle.
“Luckily, a family member called us to let us know what had happened and after the fire brigade had gained access into the home and after Misty had encountered the police which she found extremely frightening, we got her straight into our care.”
Oakwood Dog Rescue revealed Misty’s “dad loved her more than anything” and with his passing, her “whole world has been turned upside down”.
The poor pooch is finding life in the kennels quite daunting, with Oakwood Dog Rescue urgently seeking a new loving home for her as she battles with the “very scary” environment.
Described as “the sweetest of souls”, Misty is nonetheless “very scared of strangers” and requires time to build trust due to feeling “scared and overwhelmed” by the sudden upheaval in her life.
Accustomed to a tranquil household, Oakwood suggests a child-free home would be ideal for Misty, who still enjoys her walks despite the turmoil.
They shared: “She will snap if she’s touched before she’s ready, as a police officer found out first hand. She doesn’t have a nasty bone in her body though, she’s just very frightened and doesn’t understand what’s happening to her.”
Oakwood is determined to secure a permanent home for Misty to prevent her from returning to kennel life. They added: “We’d never want this little one, or any of our dogs, to end up back in kennels once adopted.”
Witnessing the distress that kennel life can cause, especially amid unfamiliar faces and a bustling atmosphere, is “really awful” for the rescue centre staff to see.
If you’re in a position to provide Misty with a home, an application form is available for completion.
Beneath the Facebook post, social media users were eager to express their sentiments.
One person said: “Oh no this is unbelievably sad, I used to see Misty and her owner walking around all the time. If she could live with dogs, I would have offered her a home. So heartbreaking.”
Another sympathised: “Oh Misty, I’m so sorry for your loss. You must be feeling very sad right now but you are in safe hands and the angels at Oakwood will take good care of you. Lots of love beautiful girl.”
A third added: “Aww my heart breaks for this gorgeous girl… I hope she finds another mum or dad that can give her gentle home.”
