Hawaii tsunami LIVE: Japan, Russia and entire US West coast at risk | World | News

In the wake of a huge 8.7 magnitude earthquake, a Tsunami has struck parts of Russia, Hawaii and Japan.

Further warnings have also been issued for the entirety of the US west coast, along with Japan’s east coast following the powerful quake which remains one of the largest in recent years.

Tsunamis have already struck parts of Russia’s Kuril Islands and Japan’s large northern island of Hokkaido, with large scale evacuations taking place along Hawaii’s coastal areas amid fears of a danger to life.

There is also further concern in the US for several other areas, including San Francisco, particularly as tsunamis have great force and can sweep away people and objects in an instant.

People who work on the coast or in the sea should refrain from doing so today – and tourists must avoid the coast at all costs until authorities give further notice. In a recent emergency alert, people in Hawaii, a popular holiday destination for many Brits, have been advised to seek shelter on the fourth floor or above, of any building with ten floors or more.

Meanwhile, waves have already begun to batter the Japanese coast, with footage seen this morning by the Express already shows huge waves crashing along beaches, including at the Central Pacific coast of Hokkaido. The quake is also understood to have damaged a nursery, though thankfully no significant injuries were reported.
