The 30 most memorable moments from the Harry Potter series have been unveiled, with Harry’s first journey through the wall on Platform 9 3⁄4 taking the top spot. A survey of 1,500 devotees of the beloved franchise ranked Voldemort’s defeat and Hagrid’s iconic line, “You’re a wizard, Harry” in second place. The touching scene when Dobby is given a sock was also recognised as a fan favourite.
Harry was voted the favourite character of the franchise, with nearly six in 10 choosing him. Hermione was the runner-up, closely followed by Ron. Lord Voldemort narrowly avoided last place, which was claimed by Dolores Umbridge.
The study found that, on average, a fan will watch one of the films three times a year, despite the final instalment being released almost 15 years ago.
A spokesperson for Krispy Kreme, who commissioned the research in conjunction with the launch of their limited-edition Harry Potter doughnuts, said: “Harry Potter has played a big part in many of our lives because there are so many iconic moments.
“Harry Potter means something different to everyone – whether it’s the house they feel most connected to, a character they admire, or even one they love to hate.
“It’s a story we’ve grown up with, and those personal connections are what keep fans coming back. Our latest range of Harry Potter doughnuts gives those fans the opportunity to feel that nostalgia again, and show their support for their own house, or to be sorted for the very first time.”
In celebration of the back-to-school season, a new limited-edition doughnut range has been launched, inspired by the four Hogwarts Houses from the Harry Potter series.
There’s even a Sorting Hat doughnut that reveals your house once you take a bite.
The study also discovered that 44 per cent of Potter fans favour Gryffindor as their preferred Hogwarts House. However, more people identify with Hufflepuff’s kind-hearted values than Gryffindor’s courageous ones.
It was also revealed fans wanted an invisibility cloak more than any other magical item (66 per cent).
And they would love Professor McGonagall most as a teacher (44 per cent).
