Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been hit with a fresh blow as their latest Netflix project failed to make the top 10 most watched shows in the UK during its opening week.
The docu-series, Polo, apparently gives viewers “unprecedented access to the world of professional polo” and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex only briefly appear in the show, despite being executive producers.
The five episodes follow global players from the world of polo, focusing on their rivalries and documents the intensity of training. It also includes Harry’s close friend, Nachos Figueras.
The series was released today (December 11) as part of the Sussexes’ £80 million Netflix deal, but it has been beaten by a number of other television shows to make it into the Top 10.
Black Doves is currently sitting in the Number One spot, followed by The Pembrokeshire Murders which is an old ITV drama which aired during the pandemic.
This Welsh three-part television drama miniseries aired in 2021 and stars Luke Evans attempting to catch serial killer John Cooper.
Played by Keith Allen, Cooper eluded prosecution for his crimes for 20 years until he was jailed for two double murders, in 1985 and 1989. The series can also be streamed on ITVX and BritBox.
In third place is The Madness, followed by The Walk-In and The Ultimatum, and in sixth place is Sabrina Carpenter’s Christmas special.
In the series, Polo, Prince Harry appears for only five seconds in the opening credits of the first episode and doesn’t re-appear until the fifth and final episode of the show.
This is the Sussexes’ fourth Netflix project following their launches of Heart Of Invictus, Live To Lead, and their controversial Harry & Meghan documentary.
Polo can be streamed now on Netflix.
