Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have faced a fresh call to strip them of their Sussex title after they appear to snub ‘Sussex day’. The couple, who stepped down as senior working royals in 2020, were granted the title of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex following their wedding in May 2018.
Meghan, 43, is the first Duchess of Sussex in history and Prince Harry is only the second ever Duke of Sussex. The couple only visited together once in 2018, with the visit lasting just six hours. Sussex Day is celebrated on June 16 each year to celebrate the rich heritage and culture of Sussex.
Former Sussex MP Tim Loughton told MailOnline today that the couple have yet again failed to show respect to Sussex and should be stripped of the title.
He told the publication: “Yet again the interest of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in the county from which they continue to use their title has been underwhelming to say the least. It is time we had a Duke of Sussex who has a genuine interest in our County and wishing Sussex residents a happy Sussex Day is hardly a tall order.
“They rarely visited Sussex even before they abandoned the UK for California and on our County Day today they have again shown no interest in Sussex”.
Instead of publicly acknowledging Sussex Day, Meghan made the decision to reveal the release date for her new As Ever products.
Just hours before Meghan’s announcement, Harry demonstrated his command of the German language in a video message to mark Germany’s first ever Veterans Day.
Meghan wrote in a newsetter released on June 16, “First off, a sincere thank you for making the debut of As ever absolutely extraordinary. We had a feeling there would be excitement, but to see everything sell out in less than an hour was an amazing surprise.”
It went on to give the date for fans’ diaries: “We are pleased to share that on June 20th, we’re going live with the products you love – plus, some new delicious surprises. More details and exact timing will be shared soon.”
