Happy Gilmore 2's Adam Sandler says Netflix 'tried to intimidate me' as he talks next film

Adam Sandler has joked that Netflix tried to “intimidate” him as he dropped hints about his potential next film. In a recent episode of the Dan Patrick Show, the Hollywood A-lister was quizzed on his next project following the premiere of Happy Gilmore 2, the follow-up to Adam’s 1996 comedy classic which dropped on Netflix today (Friday, July 25).

It prompted the Big Daddy actor to cryptically reveal that he’d had an encounter with Netflix “brass”, but Adam was seemingly defiant when they tried to “stare” him down.

Adam said: “I wish I knew right now, pal. I was just with Netflix brass; they were trying to stare me down and intimidate me, and I didn’t let it happen.” He added: “I said, ‘You wait for this. Sandman’s gonna tell you what’s up soon enough. And who’s Sandman? ‘I said, ‘Me, me. C’mon, cut this s***.”

Dan then revealed that the Little Nicky star “let it slip” about his next film when they were at dinner in New York, to which Adam replied that “there’s talk of it”, and he’s “gotta write these damn things”.

He further resisted the line of questioning by referring back to his latest offering. When probed further, Adam responded to Dan with “don’t”, adding that it was “Happy Gilmore 2 time”.

In the original 90s comedy, Adam starred as Happy, a hockey player who learns he has a talent for golf and subsequently joins the PGA Tour in an effort to secure the cash required to save his grandmother’s home.

Its sequel came as welcome news for fans. Indeed, one Reddit user took to the platform to request Adam Sandler’s movie suggestions before it was dropped.

They said: “Please let me know your favourite Adam Sandler films I can watch tonight. I watched Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore last night and loved it.”

They added: “Any suggestions please even if I’ve seen them not going to put a long list on here, just tell me your favourites so I can maybe put them on my list.”

As the suggestions rolled in, one film in particular emerged as a popular choice. The 2006 comedy fantasy film, Click, follows the tale of workaholic Michael Newman, played by Adam.

He’s been gifted a universal remote control by Christopher Walken’s character, Morty. Yet, it turns out that this remote is special, as it allows him to pause, rewind and fast-forward parts of his life.

Although it wasn’t well received by critics, one Reddit user described the film as “underrated”, while another dubbed it a “fun and enjoyable movie” that “leaves you sobbing”.

In addition to Click, other recommendations from fans include Uncut Gems, Spanglish, 50 First Dates and Little Nicky, which features a cameo from the late Black Sabbath rocker, Ozzy Osbourne.
