Following the success of Happy Gilmore 2, director Kyle Newacheck is already setting his sights on his next venture.
Comedy icon Adam Sandler reprised one of his most cherished roles after nearly three decades for this eagerly anticipated sequel.
Released in late July, the film continues to dominate Netflix’s USA film chart and ranks fourth in the UK.
A mere fortnight after Happy Gilmore 2 hit the screens, Newacheck has secured another comedy heavyweight for his upcoming project. He will be directing the action-comedy Playas Ball, featuring none other than Eddie Murphy.
Murphy, renowned for classic comedies such as Trading Places and the Beverly Hills Cop series, recently released his crime caper The Pickup on Prime Video, co-starring Pete Davidson and Keke Palmer.
Last year, he returned as Axel Foley in the Netflix sequel Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F and is set to voice Donkey once again in the forthcoming animated hit Shrek 5.
Specifics about Playas Ball and Murphy’s role remain closely guarded. However, Deadline describes the film as an action-comedy with a supernatural twist, marking a departure from Murphy’s usual repertoire, reports the Mirror US.
While this marks Murphy’s first collaboration with director Newacheck, Playas Ball continues his enduring partnership with Imagine Entertainment.
He’s previously showcased his talent in The Nutty Professor franchise, Bowfinger, Candy Cane Lane, and Tower Heist for the studio.
After the triumph of Happy Gilmore 2, Newacheck’s upcoming project is certainly one to watch.
The much-anticipated sequel featuring Sandler’s boisterous golfer swiftly became Netflix’s most-viewed English language film during its debut week and continues to captivate audiences globally.
The film garnered fairly positive feedback from both viewers and critics, currently boasting a 63 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 67 percent audience rating.
Stay tuned for more updates on Murphy’s next venture following his eagerly awaited return in Shrek.
