Nintendo are getting in the Halloween spirit by giving gamers the opportunity to spookify their Switch Online profiles with special Super Mario NSO icons. But you better be quick — they’re only available for a limited time.
They can be used to customise your user icon which is displayed to other players while you are online. These customised icons are created by combining different elements like characters, frames, and backgrounds to give your profile a unique look. Players typically earn these by completing missions and earning My Nintendo Platinum Points through the Nintendo Switch Online app.
Whether you’re a fan of Luigi, Princess Peach, Yoshi, Toad, or even Mario himself, who is dressed comically as a pumpkin, there’s something for everyone.
These icons will be available from Tuesday (October 28) until November 4. As usual, they will set you back 10 Platinum Points each, with the backgrounds and frames an additional five Platinum Points.
Please note, in order to redeem these exclusive Halloween items, you must have a Switch Online membership.
If you don’t have one, you can’t get them, and once November 4 passes by, you will not be able to buy them again.
Once the special items are released, follow this step-by-step guide to embrace the scariest season of the calendar year in true Italian plumber style.
- Open the Nintendo Switch Online app on your console and select ‘Missions & Rewards’
- Navigate to the ‘Create Icon’ section
- Find the new icons and purchase the ones you want using your Platinum Points
- Once created, you can set your new custom icon to be seen by all your friends online
Reacting to the new Super Mario icons on social media, one user said: “Oh my god, Dry Bones is hilarious,” while another added: “Oh no, I’m running out of Platinum Points, I better start grinding to get some more.”
