By the end of 2025, Halifax is set to close 100 branches across the UK. The majority of branches have already shut, but the next round of closures will occur within days, including branches in Crewe, Stretford (Manchester), Sittingbourne, and Mold, all scheduled to have their last days between October 14 and 16.
Some 54 branch closures are confirmed, and the remaining 46 branches closed but underwent re-assessments by LINK, the organisation responsible for evaluating access to cash services. LINK either recommended that no additional services were needed, or recommended Halifax provide a banking hub and/or an ATM.
In total, 103 locations appear on the assessment list, covering Halifax’s confirmed closures, re-assessments, branch relocations, and ATM closures.
Two ATM locations closed this year, at Shaftesbury Square in Belfast on October 10, and another at Fenchurch Street in the City of London in May. Additionally, one branch in Uxbridge is set to relocate.
LINK carries out these reviews when a branch closes or when local communities request one, and it makes recommendations for new cash access options.
Once a cash access assessment is complete, any recommended services are expected to be available within 12 weeks, provided no services are already in place.
Halifax, which is part of the Lloyds Banking Group, attributed the closures to changing customer habits, with fewer customers visiting physical locations, and most opting for online banking.
For customers who prefer to do their everyday banking in person, they can use any Lloyds Banking Group branch, or visit a Community Banker at the Post Office or a Banking Hub.
A Lloyds Banking Group spokesperson said: “The way people are banking has changed, with over 21 million customers choosing our apps to manage their money.
“We’re providing more choice than ever before, bringing together the best in digital convenience with our people.
“Alongside our app, our customers can use any Lloyds, Halifax or Bank of Scotland branch, the Post Office or Banking Hubs for their everyday banking, and deposit cash at over 30,000 PayPoint locations.”
