Guacamole is both delicious and adaptable, often served as a dip, toast spread, or sandwich filling. However, it can taste rather bland without proper preparation. Avocados have become popular thanks to their silky consistency, though their mild taste often proves disappointing when inadequately seasoned. Kathryne Taylor, chef and creator of Cookie and Kate, has revealed how to enhance avocado’s natural qualities for flavourful guacamole by incorporating generous amounts of salt.
She explained: “Don’t be stingy with the salt. It’s amazing what another pinch can do to bring out guacamole’s best.” Fear not, as salt won’t render your guacamole overly salty but instead intensifies the taste, allowing you to savour the avocado’s buttery qualities, reports the Express.
Avocados occasionally present a bitter edge, particularly when underripe, yet salt helps mask this unpleasant flavour whilst highlighting the fruit’s natural richness.
The seasoning extracts moisture from the avocado, creating a more fragrant result whilst enhancing the other guacamole components.
This straightforward, time-honoured technique transforms your guacamole into a far more exciting dip.
How to make guacamole taste much better
You will need:
Four medium-sized avocados (cut in half)
80g of white onion (chopped up)
15g of fresh coriander (chopped up)
One small jalapeno (deseeded and chopped up)
45ml of fresh lime juice
A quarter teaspoon of ground coriander
One teaspoon of salt
Method
Whipping up guacamole is a breeze and should take less than five minutes. Start by scooping your avocado out of its skin and placing it in a large bowl.
Be sure to discard any bruised or browning parts of the avocados, as they can impart a rather bitter taste.
Use a fork to mash the avocado until you achieve a smooth consistency. Then, stir in the coriander, jalapeño, lime juice, and salt.
Blend everything together and taste it. To enhance the flavours, sprinkle in about half a teaspoon more salt.
If desired, squeeze in a bit more lime juice for a fresher taste. An extra splash of lime juice can also prevent guacamole from spoiling if you have leftovers that need to be stored.
Your guacamole will be bursting with flavour and ready to savour at your next picnic, barbecue, or as a delightful summer indulgence.
