GTA meets Cyberpunk game MindsEye blasted on Metacritic as some players request refunds

MindsEye is a brand new game developed by former GTA producer Leslie Benzies and his Build A Rocket Boy studio. It looks like a cross between Grand Theft Auto, Cyberpunk and Watch Dogs, featuring open-world-style action elements with a technological twist.

The game made its debut on June 10 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, although it’s fair to say that the launch hasn’t exactly gone to plan.

Thanks to its relatively short campaign, empty game world and a boatload of technical issues, MindsEye has been blasted by users on Metacritic.

At the time of writing, MindsEye has a Metacritic user score of just 3.3 based on 166 reviews.

There are even reports of some PlayStation users receiving refunds, although it’s currently not at the level of Cyberpunk 2077, which was temporarily removed from the PlayStation Store at launch.

According to The Gamer, one PS5 user received a refund after pointing out that MindsEye was advertised with PS5 Pro enhancements and supporting 60 frames-per-second gameplay, which isn’t the case at launch. Another was refunded as a goodwill gesture by Sony.

Sony typically has a strict refund policy, so developer Build A Rocket Boy will need to make changes quickly if it wants to avoid any future problems on PlayStation.

Things are a little better on Steam, where MindsEye has a ‘Mixed’ user rating, with 40% positive scores.

There are still lots of negative reviews, however, with most people complaining about the performance.

The MindsEye developer has responded to the complains on X, telling fans that fixes are inbound.

“Dear Community, a heartfelt thank you to all our day-one players,” reads a post on X. “We know the launch of MindsEye hasn’t been without its challenges for some of you.

“Right now, our top priority is game performance. We understand that the requirements are high and have limited the experience for many of you, and for this, we sincerely apologise.

“Improving performance across all devices is our immediate focus. A patch that begins our commitment to address this is scheduled for the end of this week on PC, which will also roll out to consoles as soon as possible.”

Daily Express will be back with patch notes later this week.
