Grow stronger and healthier roses with 1 unexpected food item

There’s one food waste product that instead of binning, you could make your roses bloom to their best. With summer weather scorching the UK, you’ll likely be spending more time outdoors in your garden and making sure it looks its best is important.

Your garden is your haven where you can enjoy the sun in peace and you might even be planning a barbecue or an evening summer party. With this in mind, making your flowers bright and colourful is one thing you won’t want to miss out on. To elevate your roses and make them grow to the best of their ability, experts have shared one simple tip.

Perry Homes says you can boost your blooms with banana peel. It says: “Banana peels provide natural phosphorus and potassium, essential for strong rose growth.

“Instead of burying raw peels, add them to a compost pile or blend into a liquid fertilizer for better absorption.”

Roses are a popular flower to add to your garden due to their fragrance, visual appeal, or their ability to climb and cover structures.

The colourful flowers are a classic and will give your garden a timeless look.

Adding roses to your garden can make your space look vibrant and lively. They’re a great choice of plant as you can leave them to grow a little unruly and they’ll give an effortless finish to your outdoor space.

Homes and Gardens says: “You will often see plant fertilizer numbers outline the ratio of potassium (K) and phosphorus (P), as well as nitrogen (N). For this reason, banana peels are often a go-to for home gardeners making their own fertilizers and compost.

“Something to be aware of, however, is that you can’t rely on banana peels alone to provide sufficient nutrients to your plants because it may take some time to fully decompose.

“Nevertheless, saving your peels from the bin and using them in your backyard is a green way to repurpose kitchen waste and promote plant growth.”

By saving your banana peels to feed your roses with, your garden will be bright and colourful this summer, and you won’t be faced with lifeless blooms!
