Grow ‘blooming’ strawberry plants using store bought fruit

“I tried to grow some strawberries by slicing the seeds from the skin of a ripe strawberry,” Joe said in his video, which has racked up thousands of views.

“What started as a little bit of fun has now led us to grow more fresh strawberries than we know what to do with.”

Joe’s technique is surprisingly easy. First, he sliced the skin of a ripe strawberry to expose the tiny surface seeds.

He then left the slices to dry for a few days, which naturally separated the seeds from the fruit.

Once dry, the seeds are sprinkled onto a pot filled with good-quality compost and kept moist.

“After a few weeks, to my surprise, little baby strawberry plants started to appear,” he said.

As the seedlings grow, Joe transplanted them into larger containers, raised troughs, and even repurposed items like old gutters.

These unusual growing spots turned out to be perfect homes for the plants, which not only flourished but also produced “stunning fruits” throughout the summer.

But the process doesn’t stop there. Joe also shared how he’s managed to expand his strawberry empire completely for free by propagating “runners”, which are long stems that grow from the main plant and can root into new soil to form an entirely new strawberry plant.

“Although your strawberries will die back during the winter, they’re a perennial that’ll bounce back the following spring,” Joe added.

With no fancy equipment or expensive materials needed, Joe’s method proves that anyone can grow a blooming strawberry plant from a single piece of fruit.
