Fans of Greggs have been left disappointed as the bakery chain has removed a favourite for many from its stores across the UK. The fast-food restaurant, which specialises in bakery goods such as its iconic sausage roll, also sells sweet treats and sandwiches, and has more than 2,500 branches across the country. Fans have noticed the disappearance of one of their favourite sandwiches, with many taking to social media to express their disappointment over its absence from the store’s fridges.

Greggs has removed its Roast Chicken Salad Roll from its menu in all of its stores across the UK, The Sun reports. Fans noticed the sandwich’s disappearance over the last few weeks, with a similar yet different menu item seemingly taking its place. The Roast Chicken Salad Roll cost £3.95 and was made up of roast chicken covered in mayonnaise with cucumber, lettuce and tomato inside a soft roll.

Expressing their bewilderment, one Reddit user posted: “Can somebody please help? This is the best sandwich I have ever eaten and I just want to eat it again. It’s the chicken salad roll and I can’t find it on any delivery apps and haven’t been able to for months.”

Others seemed to confirm that the menu item had indeed disappeared from their local Greggs. One user said: “My local Greggs hasn’t had it for months. It was my favourite sandwich as well.” Another commented: “It was one of my favourites too.”

Another shared: “I’m still devastated the original is a 10/10 sandwich.”

However, Greggs has introduced a similar sandwich with some slight alterations. The new Roast Chicken Salad Roll is made up of sliced roast chicken breast, topped with tomato, cucumber, mixed leaf salad and mayonnaise.

Roisin Currie, Greggs’ chief executive, previously said that the bakery chain is considering adding more healthy options to its menu, pointing out how weight loss drugs like Ozempic have had an effect on consumer habits. She revealed: “If anyone is on a GLP-1, we know they still need to eat, but what they need to eat starts to change and the portions that they start to eat are changing.

“That’s really important for us and making sure that we have got a variety of protein-led options in our range, and also making sure that we’ve got some of the snack products that customers are looking for if they are on any of the GLP-1 drugs.”
