A film often hailed as the greatest movie of all time returns to Netflix today. Back to the Future (1985) stars Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly, a teenager accidentally sent back to the mid-1950s in a time-travelling DeLorean dreamed up by his friend, the mercurial scientist Emmett “Doc” Brown (played by Christopher Lloyd).

Marty releases his actions could change everything, and chance encounters could even put his future existence at risk. The film was directed by Robert Zemeckis, who co-wrote it with Bob Gale, and was an immediate hit, becoming the highest-grossing film of the year of its release.

It spawned two sequels which hit the big screen in 1989 and 1990, with the trilogy becoming one most beloved franchises in Hollywood history.

The original is held up as an 80s classic, and frequently tops lists of the best movies ever.

According to New on Netflix, an unnofficial site that shares the additions to the streaming platform, Back to the Future was added again on Thursday, October 16, in the UK.

One fan on Rotten Tomatoes fan branded it simply the “GOAT of Movies!!!”.

A second called Back to the Future “is an absolute classic!” “The story is clever, exciting, and full of heart. Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd have incredible chemistry that makes every scene unforgettable,” they added.

“The time-travel adventure is both thrilling and hilarious, with perfect balance of action, comedy, and emotion. Even decades later, it feels timeless. A must-watch for everyone!”

A third said it’s a “masterpiece and everyone knows it.”

A fourth wrote: “The film breathes absolute 80’s nostalgia. The visuals are great especially for the time and the humour is excellent. Being able to go over the top while not being cringy.

“And Christopher Lloyd’s performance as the Doc is iconic. This film was well worth a re-watch.”

The film is Certified Fresh on the site, with a sky-high 93% score on its Tomatometer, which reflects the percentage of positive reviews from approved critics. It’s got a 95% score among general audiences too, reflecting the adoration the film still receives.
