A 10-year-old girl and her grandfather were stabbed while heading to school in Los Angeles Friday by a maniac who has terrorized the neighborhood for years, according to police and locals.

The grandfather, who is in his 70s, and three children were inside a car in Sunland about to go to school around 7:40 a.m. Friday when a man came up behind them and tried to knife them in the vehicle, Fox 11 reported.

Two of the children were able to escape the car — but the grandfather and 10-year-old were both stabbed.

The pair were rushed to a local hospital in stable condition, the LAPD said.

The suspect, who is known to police, jumped inside the vehicle after the attack and drove off.

He ditched the car a few miles away and remains at large, cops said.

Residents of the neighborhood told KTLA that the suspect, believed to be in his 30s, lives with his parents and has been frightening people in the area for years.

The suspect has been homeless at times, but infrequently returns home, lives out of his car and may suffer from mental health issues, according to police.

Witnesses said the horrifying ordeal initially started as an attempted carjacking and neighbors told investigators there may have been a similar stabbing in the area months ago.
