Millions of Google users are getting a smart upgrade. The US technology giant has confirmed that its Gmail and Chrome platforms will start working more closely together in a bid to end one of the internet’s biggest annoyances. Once the update is available, users will be able to automatically fill in online forms using data taken from their Gmail inbox.

For example, if a flight has been booked and a ticket number has been sent to a Gmail account, the user won’t need to dig through their inbox when trying to check in or change seats.

They’ll simply click on the booking reference box on the airline’s website with the code then dropping in automatically. This will work across a wide range of websites including hotels, trains and more.

“Filling out online forms can be tedious, especially when you have to switch between tabs or search through your inbox to track down information,” Google explained.

“While autofill has always handled the basics — like your name, address, and credit card number — now it’s handling even more.

“Starting today, Chrome’s enhanced autofill feature can automatically suggest information pulled directly from Gmail as you fill out online forms. Using Gemini with Personal Intelligence, it can surface details like order numbers, tracking information, and flight bookings, right when you need them.”

Google says that all data is encrypted and can’t be seen by anyone else.

So, who is getting this useful free upgrade?

Right now, it’s only rolling out to those in the US on desktop, Android and iOS, but expect to see more countries, including the UK, being offered the feature in the coming months.
