Giorgia Meloni signalled she was “bored” during a high-level meeting attended by G7 leaders in Canada on Monday night, according to a body language expert. The Italian Prime Minister sat next to French President Emmanuel Macron at a roundtable which also included US President Donald Trump and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
In a moment from the Alberta meeting that’s now gone viral on social media, Ms Meloni appears to be rolling her eyes after exchanging a few words with Mr Macron. However, one body language analyst also suggested another gesture from that moment may give away the Italian politician’s “boredom”.
Speaking exclusively to the Express on behalf of Oddspedia, Inbaal Honigman, celebrity psychic and body language expert shared: “Meloni’s right hand is playing with her pen, showing that she’s feeling bored.”
Mr Honigman added: “Then, Macron whispers something in her ear. Meloni raises her eyebrows, opens her eyes wide and stares at him momentarily, which shows surprise, even disbelief. And then, we see a barely concealed eye roll.”
Just a few seconds prior, Ms Meloni was seen “slouching” towards Mr Macron as he seemingly confided something in her ear – a position the body language expert described as “quite disrespectful”. He continued: “The eye roll may suggest boredom and disrespect, both of which she has shown just beforehand.
“Eye rolling would also indicate contempt. The Italian Prime Minister’s facial expression is scornful and fed up.”
During the Macron-Meloni exchange, Mr Trump was speaking to the attendees, with the British Prime Minister listening and looking around the room.
At the same G7 summit, the US President and Mr Starmer were involved in an awkward moment, as Trump dropped a clanger.
As the two leaders stood side by side before media cameras, Mr Trump sought to hail the new trade deal between the US and UK.
However, events did not go according to plan as first the US President dropped the trade agreement document on the floor and then got rather confused.
He said: “We all know the Prime Minister of the UK and we just signed a document…So we have our trade agreement with the European Union.”
Mr Trump also appeared to antagonise the other G7 leaders with remarks about Vladimir Putin.
He astonishingly claimed that expelling Russia from the group in 2014 was a “big mistake” and even blamed the decision for triggering Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.
