This ingredient could give you tastier fried eggs every time.
Eggs are one of the most versatile things we can cook. Whether you like them fried, poached, or scrambled, they can be added to a variety of dishes for an extra hit of protein. They’re delicious on toast or as part of a fry up for breakfast – and they can also be the finishing touch on a bowl of ramen for dinner, or in a sandwich for lunch.
But cooking eggs isn’t always easy. No matter what your preferred method is, it can be tricky to achieve a perfectly cooked white with a runny yolk that isn’t undercooked.
When it comes to fried eggs specifically, cooking them incorrectly can leave you with burnt and crispy edges, a rubbery white, and sometimes even a horrible film on the top as the bottom of the egg has cooked but the top hasn’t. You can try flipping the egg to combat this, but you risk overcooking or even breaking your yolk in the process.
According to one food fan on social media, there’s an easy way to guarantee the perfect fried egg every time – and all you need to do is add one ingredient to your pan.
Lindsay posted a video on TikTok in which she said she had previously shared her egg hack, and it had gone “viral”. Since then, she gets constant comments from people saying they’ve tried her trick and have loved the results, so she wanted to share it again for those who haven’t seen it before.
She insisted she didn’t “make up” the hack herself and people have been cooking eggs this way “for years”, but as many people don’t seem to know about it, she wanted to share it with the world.
All you have to do is crack your eggs into a frying pan with no oil, and add “a dash of water”. Then simply place a lid over the pan and leave the eggs to cook.
With this method, you don’t get any crispy edges around your egg whites, and the lid helps trap the steam to evenly cook the eggs on the top and the bottom – meaning no snotty residue and a perfectly runny yolk.
Commenters on the post thanked Lindsay for sharing her hack again, as many said they needed to try it out for themselves. Others said they already cooked their eggs this way and urged others to give it a go.
One person said: “I now do them this way. Thank you! Perfect every time.” Another added: “I always thought you had to flip them! I need to try this.”
