A mum has shared a “genius” method for getting the most out of household essentials like face creams, moisturisers and other lotion and gel-based products, ensuring they last significantly longer. Many self care products can be expensive, with the cost of living crisis making people keen to ensure they get the most out of their money.
Beauty and skincare products can be very expensive, depending on the brand or store where they’ve been purchased from, so it’s not surprising many people hope to utilise every single gram of them. Similarly, vital items like toothpaste can quickly run out but one mum’s savvy hack has got people talking.
Jen Watson, a professional home organiser and mother of five, regularly takes to social media to share her insight on a range of lifestyle hacks, detailing tips in a bid to help others.
The organising whizz shares recommendations on a wide array of topics, from the “best way to roll a towel” and “tricks to make your bathroom smell amazing” to the importance of cleaning out dryer filters and air vents to prevent a potential house fire.
In a popular video shared on Instagram, she shared a hack she swears by. In the clip, filmed from Jen’s point of view, she tries to squeeze some moisturiser out of a tube to no avail.
So she cuts the top of the tube off, then unscrews the cap and places it inside the now-open container to push the remaining product out.
She keeps handy mini jars in stock to store the remaining product.
In the caption accompanying the footage, Jen explained: “Here’s a little trick I use when the container won’t squeeze out any more product, but still has some left inside. I cut off the top portion and use the lid part to push out what’s left inside.
“Try this hack the next time you can’t squeeze out any more lotion or shampoo/conditioner (in similar bottles.) You’ll be shocked at how much is still left inside!”
The video proved popular among Jen’s 837K followers, who were keen to share their thoughts.
One person said: “Works great! Thanks” while another shared: “I’ve been doing this for years, gets the most out of the tube”.
A third offered a recommendation: “Also see: toothpaste!!”
Someone else was disappointed not to have thought of trying this sooner. They added: “This is GENIUS. I can’t believe I’ve never thought to do this before!
“I’m thinking back over all the wasted product (and money!!) over the years now grrr. I will definitely be trying this with all my lotions and potions now!”
Others simply posted emojis to convey their thanks and appreciation for the tip.
