Gerrit Cole ‘sees the horizon’ of return — and what that means for Yankees

Joel Sherman offers his warmest wishes to snowed-in Yankees fans while offering up 3 things he thinks regarding Pinstripe pitching.

First, Sherman watched Gerrit Cole pitch over the weekend and tells us how he looked. He asked the ace about when he thinks he’ll be back and got an answer from Max Fried on what Cole’s return to the rotation will mean to the rest of the staff.

Joel’s second thing: A reason for fans to be hopeful regarding the progress of Luis Gil. Will the Yankees get the version of the young pitcher that he flashed in the first half of 2024? If so, their rotation depth would start looking extra special.

And finally, Joel has notes on what a healthy rest of the staff would mean for Carlos Rodon’s success when he returns in late April or early May. Sherman also spoke with pitching coach Matt Blake, who explains what the rotation may look like and how much Cam Schlittler will play into their success as well.
