Geri Halliwell described herself and husband Christian Horner as “silly” as the former Spice Girl lifted the lid on their marriage. She is regularly seen alongside the Red Bull team principal at Formula One races, who she has labelled “old-school” during a rare behind-the-scenes insight.
She began dating Horner in February 2014 and announced their engagement in November of that same year, getting married the following May. They have one child together, Monty, as part of a modern ‘blended’ family, where each parent has another child from a previous relationship.
They had first met in 2009 when Halliwell was invited to a F1 track by former supremo Bernie Ecclestone, but five years later became romantically involved.
Speaking to The Times, she shared a glimpse into their home life: “So these are the fun things we do — we walk the dogs together, we like walking. I bought him a Goldendoodle for his birthday. I hid the puppy in a phone box and handed it to him. We’re very much old-school and family-focused. He loves doing barbecues — it’s a real man thing.”
Though the singer admitted that she may get on her partner’s nerves at times, adding: “He’s very tidy. I might leave things around, which makes him a bit cross.”
The 52-year-old is currently focused on her writing, having introduced a new children’s book series called Rosie Frost. The second instalment is set to be released next month.
To promote the book, Halliwell is heading Stateside and will leave Horner and their family behind in April. She hopes that her husband will return the favour and not watch their favourite TV shows by himself in her absence, having paused Severance while he dealt with Red Bull’s issues.
“We’ll find a TV series that we lock into,” she continued. “I’ll try my best not to watch it when he goes away. I waited for him before finishing Severance. We like playing games too.
“The other day, in the kitchen, we were playing 20 questions – you’ve got to guess what the object is. We’re quite silly.”
The lighthearted domestic bliss is a far cry from when their relationship was thrust back into the public spotlight last year.
A female Red Bull colleague had accused Horner of inappropriate behaviour before he was cleared by an internal investigation by the team. He was supported by his wife publicly throughout the process, famously holding hands together through the F1 paddock, with the couple now appearing stronger than ever.
