Geno Smith was a punching bag on Friday.
But he fought back on the timeline amid career-altering news.
Smith is set to be released by the Raiders once the NFL’s new league year begins next week, clearing the way for the two-time Pro Bowl quarterback to enter free agency.

As the news dropped, Wendy’s jumped into the pool, offering the 35-year-old a job as their “Chief Taste Officer” in a cheeky post on X.
Smith retorted, “Get ya cheese up 1st,” accompanied by a screenshot of a Restaurant Business article talking about Wendy’s sales plunging during the first quarter.
The report indicated that Wendy’s sales fell by over 11 percent, giving the company its worst tally in at least 20 years, while also noting that the company is closing restaurants and easing breakfast hours in certain locations.
Smith continued in a mini tirade on X.
“Out here selling poison trying to get jokes off on twitter… Society in shambles,” he wrote.
Smith had a really down year last season, relative to what he produced in Seattle.
Smith, who signed a two-year, $75 million deal with the Raiders last offseason after a trade, threw for 3,025 yards with 19 touchdowns and 17 interceptions, which tied for the league-lead.

It was his worst season since becoming a starting quarterback after his reemergence in 2022, when he was named the NFL Comeback Player of the Year.
In that season, he led the league with a 69.8 completion rate, accumulating 4,282 passing yards, 30 touchdowns, 11 interceptions and a playoff berth for the rebuilding Seahawks.
Smith’s release will save the Raiders $8 million in cap room, but his deal will also count as $18.5 million in dead money.
