A man’s clever trick using an air fryer to keep sausages from sticking has been hailed a ‘genius’. There’s no denying that while air fryers have become massively popular and have quickly turned into a must-have kitchen item in the UK, they can be quite tricky to clean.
Air fryers are loved by Brits nationwide as they help save on energy bills during the current cost-of-living crisis. They’re really handy, can be easily stored away, and are often a more affordable option than using a regular oven.
But air fryers are also known for being hard to clean, as little chunks of food can easily get stuck in the basket. Luckily, a simple solution has been found – although not everyone is won over.
TikTok account KneelBrown has gained a loyal fan base for its ‘easy dinner ideas and food inspiration’, with some videos getting a massive 1.9 million views. In a recent video, they demonstrate how to cook a sausage sandwich without making a mess.

Don’t worry if you’re not sure about trying the hack – there’s another cleaning trick that people on social media say is a total ‘game-changer’. Ciara Turley got loads of attention when she showed how to clean an air fryer really easily, without all the hard scrubbing.
She says to put a ‘squirt’ of washing-up liquid and a spoonful of baking powder in the air fryer basket (take it out of the machine first), then fill it with boiling water. Leave it for 20 minutes to let it do its thing.
After that, just tip out the water (but not down the sink because it might block it) and rinse with warm water. Dry the basket and racks with kitchen roll before you cook anything.
