The BuyBack bonus is available on bikes until 2 November, assisting families in getting ready for Christmas, whether they’re choosing a child’s first bike, upgrading to a larger size as their old models become too small, or simply looking to cash in on unused items.
Bikes of any brand can be returned for assessment by Decathlon’s in-store team, with customers receiving a gift card that includes the 20% additional bonus. Not only does this offer provide a financial boost, but it also benefits the environment, as pre-loved models are resold through the second-life scheme instead of being discarded.
This allows parents to purchase a quality bike at a reasonable price for their child this Christmas, ensuring a smile on their face on the big day. Last year, children’s bikes were among Decathlon UK’s top-selling products, underlining their ongoing popularity as both practical and cherished festive gifts.
“We know that children can quickly outgrow or fall out of love with their bikes, resulting in them rusting in a shed or even worse, going to landfill,” says Chris Allen, Sustainability Leader at Decathlon UK.
“By offering a bonus on our BuyBack scheme, we are helping parents clear out their shed, gear up for Christmas by giving them additional funds to put towards a new gift, while pre-loved bikes get a second life with another child who’ll enjoy the ride just as much. Over 1,000 items were returned during this year’s Easter BuyBack promotion, and we hope to achieve greater success ahead of Christmas and make quality bikes more accessible for all families.”

By participating in the BuyBack scheme, customers are helping to prolong the lifespan of their bikes, with Decathlon readying them for resale. The 20% bonus incentivises customers to minimise waste and contribute to the circular economy by offering them additional value on their trade-in.
Bicycles were the inaugural products included in the Buyback scheme when it was introduced in 2023. The initiative has since broadened to encompass over 50 items across 15 sports – ranging from fitness equipment and racquets to kayaks, paddleboards, golf clubs and camping gear – assisting perfectly usable products in finding new owners.
So far in 2025, more than 5,900 items have been traded in through the Buyback scheme – over double the amount returned in 2024 – while refurbished ‘Second Life’ bicycles now account for 10% of all bike sales, giving thousands of pre-owned models a fresh start with delighted new owners.
