Gareth Bale is reportedly being lined up to lead a US-based private equity group’s potential takeover of League One Club Plymouth Argyle. The five-time Champions League winner retired from football following the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and has thus far resisted the temptation to remain involved in professional football.
However, he appeared as a pundit for TNT Sports at the Europa League final between former side Tottenham and Manchester United in Bilbao. He’s now on the brink of becoming a major investor in Plymouth, who were relegated from the Championship last season. That’s despite him having no historical ties with the club.
According to the Telegraph, talks have began between the club and the investment group partnering Bale, 35. The consortium are said to be keen to bid for full control at Home Park, with the Wales and Real Madrid icon set to be the face of any takeover.
