Dirt and grime can quickly accumulate in birdbaths, making them less appealing to birds and wildlife watchers alike. However, the solution to maintaining a pristine birdbath is surprisingly affordable and easy to implement.
By placing a single copper 1p coin in the centre of the birdbath, you can significantly slow down the growth of algae. Copper acts as an algicide, ensuring that the water remains clear and clean for much longer periods.
To start, give your birdbath a good scrub with soapy water. After it’s clean, pop in the copper coin to keep algae at bay.
