Furious mum pulls son out of school in extraordinary row over tuna sandwich

A Hull mum took extreme measures during a bizarre school row over a tuna sandwich. Stacey Jarvis pulled her son out of Thanet Primary School over the row in October 2019, was full of twists and turns, Hull Live reports.

The row quickly went viral across social media after Ms Jarvis reported that her son’s lengthy time in the toilet meant he missed out on a hot school dinner, sparking headlines about the boy’s “long poo”.

Her son, Jayden, had initially complained to his mum that he had gone “all day without food” during one school day.

He said the hot school dinners had run out by the time he got to the canteen after he “took his time” on the toilet.

The then-Year 5 pupil claimed he was offered a tuna sandwich but Jayden refused because he “never liked tuna”.

Ms Jarvis, a mother-of-four, was outraged after speaking with her son and stormed into the school the next day.

A row with the head teacher Jo Machon ensued, prompting Ms Jarvis to pull her son out of the school, which he had only attended for eight months.

She said she will now keep Jayden off school until he receives an apology for “making him upset and hungry”.

The head teacher hit back after the row went viral, writing a letter to the mum expressing her “sadness and disappointment in your actions towards both the school and myself last week”.

Ms Machon called out Ms Jarvis for being “rude and aggressive towards both the staff in our Admin Team”.

She said there were reports that she had used “inappropriate language in front of children”.

The head teacher then dropped a bombshell, revealing that Jayden was offered a serving of Shepherd’s Pie before being offered a tuna sandwich.

Ms Machon said that Ms Jarvis knew this “full well” but still went to the newspapers and spread “untruths and mis-quotes”.

She then threatened to ban Ms Jarvis from the school grounds.

The epic story ended when the then-pregnant mother U-turned and was forced to admit the story wasn’t true.

Ms Jarvis said she asked Jayden about the shepherd’s pie after the letter was posted and he confessed that he was offered one.

The mum claimed it was a misunderstanding and said she wouldn’t have been so upset if she had known that her son was offered a hot meal at the start.

She sent Jayden back to school after being threatened with a fine for an unauthorised absence.
